‘Ōlelo noe‘au.
One can learn from many sources.
‘A‘ohe pau ka ‘ike I ka hālau ho‘okāhi.
All knowledge is not taught in the same school.
The purpose of this project is to bring together all those interested in
working on the goal: By the end of 2014, all third graders on the Wai‘anae Coast
will be reading at grade level.
The Wai‘anae Coast is one of five initial communities
that began the project in April 2007. It is the goal of the project
to build on the foundation set by SPARK Hawai‘i, an early childhood initiative
that utilizes the strengths of the community, continues partnerships and
affects policy to prepare children and families for school and vice versa.
P-3 supports programs that nurture the relationships and connections between
early childhood and elementary schools.
School Community Focus Groups have already begun with early
childhood and elementary school teachers and community
members in 4 targeted communities
(Nānākuli, Mā‘ili, Kamaile, and Mākaha). These Focus Groups will create a
continuing partnership amongst teachers and community members working towards
aligning language arts standards, while continuing to
develop a seamless transition between early childhood and kindergarten.
If you are interested in becoming a partner please contact an INPEACE Focus
Group Coordinator.
