
Wai`anae Coast
residents participated in Ka Lama Education Academy Refresher Courses 2008
in Math and English at Leeward Community College-Wai`anae Campus during the
summer from the end of May through the middle of August. Many gained enough confidence in their skills
and abilities to continue on as college students at Leeward during the Fall
semester and several others will be enrolling in Spring. Ka Lama Community Counselors are currently seeking
and working with community residents that are interested in applying for Spring
2009 to start or re-enter college.
Interested residents can call the Ka Lama Office for an appointment to
start going through the applications process.
A current TB clearance and MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) 2 shot immunization
record is required.
INPEACE – Ka Lama
Education Academy
will be hosting a variety of workshops for high school seniors and community
residents at Leeward Community College-Wai`anae Campus during the month of November. The schedule for workshops is as follows:
11/06/08 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm Native Hawaiian Scholarship
Opportunities Workshop – Kamehameha Schools, Ho`oulu
Native Hawaiian Data Registry, Liko A`e & Manawa Kūpono will be presenting
their programs.
11/13/08 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm and 5:15 – 6:15 pm Financial Aid Workshops (FAFSA) in
collaboration with Leeward Community College Financial Aid Office. Two workshops will be presented.
11/20/08 – 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Scholarships
Workshop focusing on the Hawai`i Community Foundation Scholarships. This is a working meeting. Be prepared to work on a personal statement
for scholarships.
