Founding Board Member
Dr. Alice Junco Kawakami is the program director for Ka Lama Education Academy, a teacher recruitment program. She is also a board member and one of three founding members of the organization. Dr. Kawakami is a tenured associate professor of education and the former Director of the Hawai‘i Institute for Educational Partnerships at the University of Hawaiʹi at Mānoa. Ms. Kawakami holds her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and her M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa as well as her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Hawaiʹi at Hilo.
Dr. Kawakami has been awarded the Kamehameha Schools Native Hawaiian Educator of the Year 2005 and a travel grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to present on‐going research on indigenous perspectives on educational research and evaluation at the American Evaluation Association (AEA) Annual Conference in Toronto and the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE) in New Zealand.
Dr. Kawakami has been published in over a dozen journals and books.
